HISTORIC TOURS

We are no longer offering historic tours of Waldo. Our Tour Van has been sold. A new tour van is in our future plans.

The Waldo Historical Society conducts tours of historic Waldo on an "as requested" basis. This is a fully narrated 90 minute tour, in an air conditioned van, and includes over 40 historic buildings and sites.

Cost of the tour is $10.00 per person.  A minimum of 5 passengers per tour is required. Get a group together and give us a call at 352-468-1910 for reservations.

2010 Halloween Tour

Our 2010 Halloween Tour was lots of fun for everyone - our passengers and those who helped make it scary for them. Witch Mariah, as usual, scared the young ones on the van, who refused to get out to see what she was brewing.

We had discovered more ghosts and their stories since last year, so everyone was surprised. Because Halloween will be on Monday next year, we plan to do the tour on Saturday night as we did this year. Hope to see you there.

Historic Waldo Tour

The Historic Waldo tour departs from the Waldo Caboose, which is located on Waldo Road, in City Park.

During the 90 minute fully narrated tour in our air conditioned tour van, you will visit over 40 historic sites, including a relaxing drive along the Waldo Canal, and if it's running, sample a drink from the "Flowing Well."

To book a tour or find out more about our historic tours, please email historicwaldo@Windstream.net.

Historic Walking Tour

Waldo Caboose The caboose was acquired by the City of Waldo from the Seaboard System Railroad (CSX Corp.) in 1986. Two historical markers located nearby give a brief history of the town and information about Waldo during the Civil War. J.J. Dickison (John Jackson Dickison, 1816-1902) Florida’s famous Civil War Guerilla leader, bivouacked at Camp Baker south of here, during the closing weeks of the conflict.

Halloween Tour

Our Halloween Tour is about as spooky and scary as anyone would want to experience. A drive through our local cemetery will give you first hand knowledge of some very scary events that happened to your Driver and Narrator one dark and stormy night. You'll learn where all the "known" ghosts are in Waldo, and you'll be "dieing" to meet Mariah, the Witch, down on Cracker Hill.

Christmas Tour

The Christmas Tours are scheduled around the "Christmas at the Caboose" Celebration, hosted each year by the City of Waldo. Our Christmas Tour is usually scheduled two days before and two days after this celebration, with the middle day being a walking tour around the historic district. The driving tours are priced at $10.00, and include entrance into two historic homes and a drive to all the best Christmas lights in Waldo.

To make the Tour Van more festive, we attach a string of Christmas Lights around the interior to dress up the inside of the van, and plug them into an adapter in the cigarette lighter. The Christmas Lights are attached to a music box that plays Christmas Carols.
